TRANSLATIONS: The First Seattle Transgender Film Festival to be held during Labor Day Weekend
TRANSLATIONS: The First Seattle Transgender Film Festival

Labor Day Weekend, September 1-3, 2006.

With screenings at the AMC Meridian 16 in downtown Seattle and the Washington State Convention and Trade Center , TRANSLATIONS brings the best of rarely seen Transgender film to the Pacific Northwest . While some festivals have included Transgender programming, TRANSLATIONS will be the first festival in Seattle 's history to devote itself exclusively to this new and ground-breaking genre. Instead of the side dish, TRANSLATIONS will be the main course!

In its inaugural year, TRANSLATIONS will bring 20 films to the big screen. Opening night at the AMC Meridian 16, begins with Takeshi Kitano's overlooked gem, ZATOICHI (2003). ZATOICHI brings the beauty of a Transgender sister to life in a genre not known for accommodating gender diversity-the Samurai film.

Two examples of documentaries contributed by Trans and non-Trans individuals alike will be: WRONG BATHROOM, an exploration of the complicated challenge many Transpeople face with the common everyday task of simply relieving oneself; and, GENDER GETAWAY, which documents the real life vacation of a close-knit group of lady friends.

TRANSLATIONS will host a series of animated shorts like FIRST LOVE; SICK; and FIRST PERIOD, a story of a 70's high school student struggling with young love and gender issues in Canada. We'll have a look at the life of young people in TRANSGENDER TEENS, as well as a Saturday night series of 11 short films. Included in this series will be JUAN the BRAVE, a film that provides a window into growing up Trans in a Latino family. Another favorite is a film that weaves the love of gender into the world of sewing in WHATEVER SUITS YOU.
